IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT APACHE JUNCTION WATER DISTRICT’S DRINKING WATER

(December 19, 2024)

Apache Junction Water District did not complete Lead Service Line Inventory by deadline

All community water systems and non-transient non-community water systems were required to submit an initial service line inventory to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) by October 16, 2024.  We failed to submit the inventory by the due date. As our customers, you have a right to know what happened and what we are doing to correct this situation.

Service line inventories are the foundation from which water systems can take proactive steps to address lead service lines. Creating an inventory of service line materials and identifying the location of lead service lines are key steps in getting them replaced.

What should I do?

There is nothing you need to do at this time. The inventory will be submitted as required. However, we have not yet identified the material of all the service lines, so there is a very low risk that there may be lead in the service lines. Additional information about reducing any potential lead exposure will be mailed to properties where service lines were unknown.

What does this mean?

This is not an emergency, as we are in the process of completing the initial lead service line inventory. If it had been, you would have been notified within 24 hours.

You will be notified within 30 days of finishing our inventory if any lines are determined to be lead or galvanized requiring replacement.

What is being done?

The inventory will be submitted as required. We will continue to work to identify the materials of the service lines to confirm where or not there is a lead risk. We anticipate that this will be completed by February 29, 2024.
